ATVs stolen in Howell County recovered

ALTON -- Two Alton men have been charged with receiving stolen property.

The Oregon County Sheriff's Office charged Jozy J. Bates, 21, with one count of receiving stolen property by knowingly possessing a Yamaha ATV stolen in Willow Springs in Howell Co.

Marty J. Bates, 42, Jozy Bates' uncle, turned himself in to the sheriff's office June 1 on an Oregon County warrant charging him with three counts of receiving stolen property.

The Oregon County Prosecuting Attorney's Office charges that he knowingly received a stolen Honda ATV as well as a Suzuki LTZ 400 ATV and a Polaris Trail Boss ATV. All three ATVs were stolen in Howell County.

Marty Bates posted bond of $4,700 June 1 and has a court date for June 22.

Jozy Bates remains in the Oregon County jail with a court date set also for June 22.

Jason A. Ragan, 23, of Thayer was charged June 5 with misdemeanor domestic assault and felony unlawful use of a weapon, according to the Oregon County Sheriff's Office.

On June 5 Ragan hit his wife, Brandi, in the face with a toy train and pointed a gun at her in a threatening manner according to authorities. He posted a $7,500 bond and is scheduled to be in Oregon County Associate Court July 6.

Two other Alton men turned themselves in to the Oregon County Sheriff's Department on county warrants charging them with receiving stolen property.

On Oct. 19, 2004, James E. Alexander, 47, possessed an Yamaha ATV, knowing it had been stolen, according to the sheriff's department.

The sheriff's department also charged that on March 29, knowing they had been stolen, George Baker, 64, had in his possession a 4-TRAX ATV and Bear ATV.

Each man posted a $4,900 bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 20.
