OREGON COUNTY -- U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Emerson announced last week that she has replaced her mobile office with a new program and it will be coming to the Alton/Thayer area the end of June.
The program will be called Congressional Connection. She said the new program is aimed at improving constituent services in the Eighth Congressional District. The program of one-hour stops will operate monthly to help keep Emerson in contact with constituents throughout the area.
"Folks need to meet one-on-one with a member of my staff every so often to discuss casework as well as the issues facing us in southern Missouri. The Congressional Connection program gets staff out of the office and into communities where they can have these types of meetings as a drop-in basis," Emerson said. "The best part of the new program is that the staff member in most cases will be back in the office by the end of the day and able to pass along the results of these meetings to me as soon as possible."
Emerson has three offices in the district, in Cape Girardeau, Farmington and Rolla. Staff members from each office will be responsible for the Congressional Connection program in their respective region.
Emerson's Congressional Connection will be in Alton at the Oregon County Courthouse June 28 from 2 to 3 p.m. and at the Thayer City Hall from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.
