Area law enforcement officers ushered in the new year by making their first drug bust.

Timothy Ray Kauke, 36, a Poughkeepsie native, has been charged with possession of methamphetamine after a traffic stop in Mammoth Spring Jan. 1.

According to the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force, Mammoth Spring Officer Jamie Turnbough stopped Kauke's Mercury Cougar because the vehicle did not have a license plate.

While searching the car, Turnbough found quantities of methamphetamine, marijuana and other drug paraphernalia.

Bond for Kauke had not been set as of press time.

A Viola man who is facing drug charges after an arrest earlier this year is facing additional drug charges after a Dec. 18 traffic stop.

James P. Knot, 38, has been charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class Y felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to use, a class C felony.

According to the Arkansas State Police, Knott was arrested after officers stopped his vehicle on Highway 223 south of Viola.

Cpl. Ronnie Stewart said Knott appeared to be intoxicated. Officers found quantities of marijuana, methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia after searching Knott's car.

Fulton County Circuit Judge Tim Weaver did not issue a bond for Knott.

A Mammoth Spring man has been charged with theft after he allegedly stole a four-wheeler.

Nathan Wayne Michaels, 19, has been charged with theft of property, a class C felony.

According to the Fulton County Sheriff's Department, a four-wheeler belonging to Bonnie Carter of Mammoth Spring was stolen Nov. 28.

Officer Jamie Turnbough with the Mammoth Spring Police Department received a tip that Michaels was in possession of the stolen four-wheeler.

Officers went to Michaels' residents and recovered the all-terrain vehicle.

Michaels' bond was set at $5,000. He posted bond the same day. Michaels, Knott and Kauke are slated to appear in Fulton County Circuit Court Jan. 5.
