Essie Lene Darty Watkins Williams, 78, of Batesville, died Dec. 24, 2004, at Jonesboro. She was born March 7, 1926, at Lacrosse, Ark., to Earnest William and Lizzie Darty. She had worked for the North Arkansas Clinic and White River Medical Center in Batesville and was a member of Bethel AME Church in Batesville.

Survivors include two sons -- Albert Randell Watkins Jr., of Jonesboro and Claxton Norwood Watkins of Batesville; a daughter, Ernestine Viola Watkins of Batesville; a sister, Lillie Mae Watkins of Batesville; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands -- Albert Watkins and Hugh Williams; three brothers -- Cleatice Darty, Hasting Darty and David Taz Darty; and two sisters -- Bernice Kennard and Tressedene Darty.

The funeral was Dec. 30 at Bethel AME Church located at 9th and Oak St., in Batesville with the Rev. Keith Grandberry and the Rev. Tom Carpenter officiating. Burial was inSweet Home Cemetery at La-crosse with arrangements by Qualls Batesville Funeral Service.

Pallbearers were Arthur Montgomery, Bobby Cothrine, N.H. Strong, Corey Davidson, Cecil Sherrill and Ben Earls.

Honorary pallbearers were her grandsons.
