The Koshkonong Bluejays opened play in the fifth annual Cabool Holiday Tournament with a matchup against the Summersville Wildcats by falling behind big, rallying late and eventually losing.
Koshkonong slugged its way out of a double-digit deficit at the half against Summersville, but still fell to the Wildcats 53-47 Dec. 27.
Trailing 24-14 at intermission, the Bluejays blasted Summersville by outscoring them 21-6 in the third period to grab a 35-30 advantage heading into the final frame.
The shoe was definitely on the other foot for Koshkonong in the fourth, as Summersville responded by outscoring the Bluejays 23-12 down the stretch to post a six-point win.
Justin Rigel paced the Bluejays with 21 points, while Levi Roark tallied 12. Nathan Evans added five, Shane Waggoner four, Greg Spoor three, and Chris Davis two for Koshkonong.
The Bluejays responded to their opening-round loss by hammering Lutie 74-43 in the consolation brackets Dec. 28.
Koshkonong led 37-25 at the half, and never really had any trouble with the Indians.
Shane Waggoner paced the Bluejays with 16 points, while Levi Roark and Chris Davis posted 14 points apiece. Justin Rigel added 12, with Tyler Roark and Greg Spoor tossing in six points each. Nathan Evans, Nathan Gill and Luke England hit for two points apiece.
