THAYER -- The Thayer and Mammoth Spring Fire Department fought the blaze hard at the Allen American Realty office in Thayer, but the business was a complete loss.
The fire began in the early morning hours of March 21 and was called in to the fire department by a passing motorist on Highway 63.
The building was totally engulfed in flames when the fire department arrived. A resident of an apartment in the building, Mildred Cornelius, mother of business owner Ron Cornelius, was out of town at the time of the fire. No one was injured in the blaze.
According to fire department members, the roof of the structure caved in shortly after the firemen arrived.
The firefighters did keep the fire contained to the one structure and kept it from destroying an outbuilding located at the rear of the property and a second office building adjacent to the real estate office.
As of March 26, investigators with the State Fire Marshal's office had not determined the cause of the fire.
The business was established in the late 1960s. Cornelius said he is not sure at this time if he will re-build the office. He and his office staff are working in the smaller building adjacent to the burned building.
