Area schools ready for vacation's end

AREA -- School bells will ring across Oregon County and Mammoth Spring next week after summer vacation.

Couch School will start classes Aug. 15 at 8:06 a.m. with a full day of classes. Classes will be dismissed at 2:54 p.m.

Buses will run their regular routes. Breakfast will be served at a price of 70 cents for all students; adults will pay $1.10. Students in grades K-6 will pay $1 for lunch. Students in grades 7-12 will pay $1.10 for lunch, and adults will pay $1.60.

Students in the seventh and eighth grade at the school will receive their schedules the first day of school. Students in the seventh through the twelfth grade will be required to pay a $10 book deposit on the first day of school.

Teacher work days at the school will be Aug. 11 and 12.

Alton School will start classes Aug. 17. Parents and residents of the community are invited to an open house from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18 in the elementary and high school buildings.

Classes at the elementary school will begin at 8:20 a.m. and dismiss at 3:05 p.m. Classes at the high school will run from 8:25 a.m. to 3:10 p.m.

Breakfast and lunch will be available at Alton School to all kindergarten through 12th grade students. At the elementary school, prices will be student lunch $1.10; reduced-price lunch, 40 cents; extra milk 25 cents; student breakfast 75 cents; reduced-price breakfast 30 cents.

At the high school, student lunch prices will be $1.20; reduced price lunch 40 cents; extra milk 25 cents; reduced-price breakfast 30 cents.

Koshkonong will start school Aug. 17 with a full day of classes. Regular bus routes will run and breakfast and lunch prices will remain the same as last year.

An open house will be held at the school Aug. 16 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The school district will have a new superintendent this year, Steve Morgan. Morgan comes from Lamar and has signed a two-year contract with the Koshkonong School District.

Thayer will open for the school year Aug. 17 at 8 a.m. A full day of classes will be held and school will be dismissed at 3 p.m. High school students can pick up their class schedules Aug. 11.

An open house will be held at the elementary school Aug. 14 at 2 p.m. Orientation for students in the seventh grade and their parents/guardians is set for Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. in the high school gym.

The days for teacher orientation and workshops are Aug. 15 and 16.

Mammoth Spring students will start classes Aug. 19. This will be a full day of classes. Buses will run normal routes and breakfast and lunch will be served.

This will also be the first day of school for students in the new 3 - and 4-year-old preschool program. Meal prices will be the same as last year at the school. The price for reduced lunch is 40 cents and breakfast is 25 cents. The price for a full lunch at Mammoth Spring is $1, and breakfast is 50 cents.

All students who attend school at Mammoth Spring will again be covered by a school paid accident insurance policy which covers students at school and at school sponsored activities. Parents may purchase full coverage at their own expense. Insurance forms are available at the school.
