John W. Carpenter, 69, of Poughkeepsie, Ark., died Aug. 2, 2005, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
He was born Jan. 28, 1936, at Burnet, Texas, to Johnny William and Mae Belle (Marshall) Carpenter.
He served in the Army National Guard, worked for the Sharp County Road Department for 26 years and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Carpenter of the home; two sons Jack Carpenter of Marble Falls, Texas, and Matthew Carpenter of Grants, N.M.; one daughter, Debra Bacon of Evening Shade; one brother, Curtis Carpenter of Granite Shoals, Texas; three sisters -- Odessa Henry of Hamburg, Pa., Margie Clark of Cherokee, Texas, and Ruth Hodge of Leander, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant brother, Jimmy William Carpenter; one sister, Isabell Hall; one grandson, Johnny William Carpenter IV; and one great-grandson, Julian Amidon.
Graveside services were held Aug. 6 at the Bacon Cemetery located at Evening Shade with Bro. Larry Weaver officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Honorary pallbearers were the crew members of the Sharp County Road Department.
