"Nana" Imogene McKissack Shaddix, daughter of the late Jim Ned McKissack and Mary Elizabeth Hardage McKissack, was born Nov. 8, 1916, in Streetman, Texas. She departed this life on July 27, 2005, in Oxford, Ark. at the age of 88 years.
"Nana" was united in marriage to James T. Shaddix on Feb. 23, 1937, and to this union two children were born. During her working years in Texas, she was employed by J.C. Penney and later at Grand Prairie Laundry and Dry Cleaning. In addition to being a wife, mother, homemaker and grandmother. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Oxford Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandi Dillard of Oxford; five grandchildren -- Jennifer Calote, Michael Norvold, Thomas Norvold, Candace Blevins all of Oxford, and Danny Dillard of Ottwa, Kan.; nine great-grandchildren -- Jami Qualls, Jackie Densford, Courtney Blevins, Lane Norvold, Caleb Blevins, Zachary Dillard, Isaac Dillard, Chloe Blevins and Baylee Lynn Dillard; one great-great-grandson -- Allan Densford; one son-in-law, Shel Norvold; and a host of other relatives and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Mary Ealon; three brothers -- Jem, Malcom and Loyal McKissack; one great-granddaughter, Sydney Norvold and her son-in-law, Carroll Dillard.
The funeral service was July 29 at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Author Barber, Ralph Allmon and David Jennings officiating. Burial followed at Oxford Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.
Pallbearers were Billy McBride, Alan Sherrell, Howard Lee Blankenship, Mark Herrington, Ronnie Yancey and David Sherrell.
Honorary pallbearers were Matt Jackson, Charles Sherrell, Jerry Bone, Ron Helm, Terry Dillard, Jody Dillard, Bryan Dillard, Dylan Helm and Steve Roberts.
