Lavada E. Duke, 80, of Independence, Mo., died May 6, 2004, at her home.
Born Aug. 28, 1923, in Salem, Ark., she was the daughter of Walter Mac and Mattie C. Wells Henry.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed flowers and gardening. She married Vernon L. Duke April 28, 1962, in Kansas City, and they made their home in the Independence area.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Vernon Duke, of the home; two sons -- Robert A. Duke and Paul D. Duke, both of Independence; a daughter, Patsy Duke; a brother, Ernest Henry, of Salem, Ark.; a sister, Opal Slayton of Columbia, Ala.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son and a sister.
The funeral was at the Mount Washington Forever Mausoleum Chapel in Independence.
Burial was in Mound Grove Cemetery at Independence. Arrangements were under the direction of Mount Washington Forever Funeral Home of Independence, Mo.
A "celebration of life" was held at the mausoleum.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
