Melvin Richard McDougal, 75, of Pleasant Plains, Ark., died May 29, 2004, at his home. Born May 3, 1929, at Pleasant Plains, he was the son of James Glenn and Gertie Martin McDougal.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of Pleasant Plains Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie McDougal of the home; four daughters -- Marilyn Parker of Sacramento, Calif., Jennifer Branscum and Joanie McAnally both of Pleasant Plains, and Ingrid Carroll of Mountain Home; a step-daughter, Linda Cocklin of Jacksonville; a step-son, Randy Allender of Pleasant Plains; three brothers, Gene McDougal of Jacksonville, Harold McDougal of North Little Rock and Jack McDougal of Cabot; five sisters -- Clista Gilbert of Cabot, Anne Shane of Searcy, Lou Owens of Cabot, Sarah Gilbert of Pleasant Plains, and Mary Etta Hodshire of Panburn; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-gandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Stella McDougal; and two brothers -- Enoch McDougal and Paul McDougal.
The funeral was June 1 at Qualls Batesville Funeral Service Chapel in Batesville with Keith Smith officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Plains Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Qualls Batesville Funeral Service.
Pallbearers were Ronnie McDougal, Leslie Shane, Jason Gilbert, Freddie McDougal, Woody Nicholson, and Justin McDougal.
Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Sanders, Ernie Sanders, Woody Pearson and Roy Sutter.
