Mary Marjorie Smithson Estes, daugher of the late Hubert Smithson and Cumie Kytle Smithson, was born April 6, 1925, in Gorby, Ark. She died July 11, 2005, in Calico Rock, Ark., at the age of 80 years. She was united in marriage to Charles Harris Estes on April 22, 1942, and to this union three children were born. In addition to being a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker, she worked many jobs. She was employed at the Shirt Factory in Gassville, she waited tables and helped C.H. on the farm. Marjorie was a faithful and active member of Melbourne United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Robbie Estes of Melbourne; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Norman Hardaway of Melbourne and Ruth and Charlie Lamb of Melbourne; one brother, David Smithson of Calico Rock; two sisters -- Iva Lee McVey of Calico Rock and Ida Beth Randall of Bonner Springs, Kan.; four grandchildren -- Kim Hardaway Kieffner, Kevin Hardaway, Lisa Pitts, and Tiffany Sitton; five grandchildren -- Haley Jo Hardaway, Danielle Lee Hardaway, Matthew Pitts, Andrew Pitts, and Lexi Sitton and a host of other relatives and many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, C.H. Estes; and one sister, Imogene Simpson.
The funeral service was July 13 at the Roman and Billy Howard Memorial Chapel in Melbourne with Terry Sager officiating. Burial was at Roselawn Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home of Melbourne.
Pallbearers were James W. Webb, Newt Blankenship, Deanie Ray Floyd, Arnold Harris, Sam Sharp and Dr. Roger Totten.
