Application period for WMA turkey hunt under way

Tuesday, December 28, 2004

Arkansas turkey hunters may apply for limited permits on several Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife management areas for the 2005 spring season.

Applications may be submitted online at www.agfc.com or will be available from license dealers and AGFC offices throughout the state. The application period is open through Jan. 15, 2005. Applications must be postmarked on or before that date to be eligible for the computer drawings. Applicants who are selected will be required to submit a $10 processing fee.

A new procedure this year will allow applicants to check their permit status at www.agfc.com. Both online and mail applicants will be able to find out if they were drawn for one of the permits. The site will be available after the first drawing that is scheduled for late January. Applicants can go to the Web site and type in their applicant ID number (either driver's license, Social Security or hunter education number) to view the information.

The quota permit hunts are planned on Camp Robinson/Bell Slough , Cut-Off Creek, Dr. Lester Sitzes, III/Bois d'Arc, Harold E. Alexander, Holland Bottoms, Lafayette County, Rex Hancock/Black Swamp, Shirey Bay/Rainey Brake and Sulphur River wildlife management areas.
