DAR chapter elects conference delegates

Thursday, January 27, 2005

The Strawberry River Chapter of NSDAR met Jan. 8 at Belview Baptist Church in Melbourne.

The President General's message was read by Tyma Sellers. The roll was called by Recording Secretary Grace Gervasi who reported that there were 10 members, three prospective members, and three guests present.

Regent Wolfe reported that the 97th Annual Arkansas State Conference would be held March 17-19 at the Doubletree Hotel in Little Rock. Gervasi, Ruth Ashcraft and Sellers were elected delegates. Jane Sandefur and Henley were elected alternates.

Acting Registrar Sandefur proposed Frances Comeaux, daughter of Frances Oldenburg, for membership. She was voted to be admitted for membership.

Sellers reported on the status of the Good Citizen and Good Citizenship awards. Paulson will help with the Melbourne and ICC schools. Money was collected for the State Regent's Scholarship Fund. Regent Wolfe reminded members to save the tabs from drink cans for the State Regent's Ronald McDonald Project. Janet Ross talked about the new library being built in Horseshoe Bend. Engraved bricks are being sold to raise money for the library. Ross moved that the Strawberry River Chapter buy a brick for $50. The motion was passed.

The program, Preserving History, was given by Sue Chrisco. She also demonstrated a dousing rod and how it works. The next meeting will be Feb. 5 at Cherokee Village City Hall.
