You could say that Koshkonong's Justin Rigel was on a mission Jan. 18 as his squad took on the Cabool Bulldogs in non-conference hoops action.
Rigel poured in a game-high 31 points, just 10 shy of what the entire Bulldogs' team could manage, with the Bluejays winning 53-41.
Koshkonong broke open a fairly close contest by outscoring Cabool 23-14 in the fourth period.
In addition to Rigel's big night, Levi Roark added five points for the Bluejays, while Greg Spoor, Chris Davis and Shane Waggoner tossed in four points apiece. Nathan Evans followed with three, and Seth Johnson two for Koshkonong.
The Bluejays opened play in the 34th annual Liberty Invitational Tournament Jan. 17 by falling to the top-seeded Thayer Bobcats for the second time on the year, 80-40.
Rigel led Koshkonong, the number eight seed, with 21 points, while Waggoner followed with seven. Roark added five, with Davis and Johnson hitting for two points each.
The Bluejays then suffered an 80-64 setback to the host team Liberty Eagles Jan. 20 in consolation round action.
Rigel posted his third 20-plus point effort of the week with 20 points, while Levi Roark followed with 11. Waggoner added nine, with Evans and Davis posting seven points apiece. Tyler Roark hit for five, Spoor four, and Richard Gatewood two.
