Thayer joins MO One Call

THAYER -- The city of Thayer has joined the Missouri One Call System, a non-profit organization established for the protection of underground facilities.

According to Thayer Mayor Allen Deckard, Missouri law requires anyone planning to dig or blast report the location of the dig by calling 1-800-344-7483. A MOC operator will enter the necessary information and then notify the city of Thayer along with any other utility companies that may be involved in the excavation.

"Digging without knowledge of what is underground can cause injury, interrupt service and result in expensive repairs for both the excavator and the utility," Deckard said.

He said to call the 800 number at least two days prior to doing any excavation. The digging site will then be marked at no cost.

The city of Thayer is now a member of more than 540 MOC cities.
