Viva Adean Smith, 83, former resident of Saffell, Ark., died Oct. 29, 2002, at White River Medical Center in Batesville. She was born April 20, 1919, in Strawberry, Ark., daughter of Obie and Gertha (Horn) Eagan. She was united in marriage to Lewis Smith May 1934. He preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1987. She was a homemaker, enjoyed childcare, sewing, shopping, and was a member of the Mt. Harmony Freewill Baptist Church in Saffell.Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law -- Bobbie and Jack Neal of Cord, Barbara and James Dye of Hensley, and Linda and G.H. Doyle of Moline, Ill.; one brother, Vernon Eagan of Hammond, Ind.; two sisters, Verna Allen and Mildrine Allen of Hammond, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Chuck Dye, Jackie Williams, Debbie Dutton, Regina Duke, Lisa Neal, Todd Neal, and Derek Doyle, and several great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; one son, Charles A. Smith; and one brother, O'Neal Eagan.Services were Nov. 1, at the Mount Harmony Freewill Baptist Church in Saffell with Bro. Larry Pounds and Bro. Stanley Vandergriff officiating. Burial was in the Lancaster Cemetery in Strawberry, with arrangements under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Services Inc. in Walnut Ridge.Pallbearers were Jack Neal, James Dye, G. H. Doyle, Todd Neal, Chuck Doyle, and Derek Doyle.
