Sanders Walker Manning, 73, Greenwood, Ind., died March 29, 2004, at Regency Place of Greenwood. He was born Dec. 27, 1930, at Atlanta, Ga., the son of Barney Ware and Clara Bell (Shipp) Manning.
He was married Nov. 25, 1950, to Barbara Ann Scott, and to this union one son, Bruce, was born. On Jan. 25, 1956, he was married to Virginia Sadlowski, and to this union two sons, Stephen and Peter, and three daughters, Carolyn, Susan and Marion, were born.
Manning was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He served during the Korean Conflict, was a member of Sealab project Genesis and retired in 1968 with the rating of Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman.
He was employed for several years by Taylor Diving and Salvage of New Orleans, La., as a diving superintendent, working in Louisiana part of the year and living in Alton, Mo., with his family the rest of the year.
Manning was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Manning, West Plains; his sons -- Bruce Thomas Manning, of Massachusetts, Stephen Paul Manning, Plainfield, Ind., and Peter Eugene Manning OF Bargersville, Ind.; his daughters -- Carolyn Ann Hennes, Zimmerman, Minn., Susan Ellen Manning, McDonough, Ga., and Marion Patrice Barker, West Plains; one brother, Barney "Mike" Ware Manning, McDonough; eight grandchildren -- Brian Christopher Barker, Megan Patrice Collins and Heather Loryn Collins, all of West Plains, Emily Louise Hennes and Jack Andrew Hennes, both of Zimmerman, Natalie DeAnn Hamilton, Springfield, Sean Lee Manning, Bloomington, Ind., and Sara Maria Manning, McDonough.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one granddaughter, Valerie DiAnn Manning.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Forest Lawn Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Home, St. Rd. 135 Chapel, Greenwood.
