Dean E. Montgomery, 88, of Mason City, Iowa, died March 17, 2004, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. He was born April 1, 1915, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Edward and Nettie May Harvey Montgomery. He graduated from Williamsburg High School and Iowa State University at Ames, Iowa.
He married Dorothy C. Miller in July 1938, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He worked as a chemist for Sugar Beet and Armour in Mason City. After retiring he moved to Horseshoe Bend, Ark. In 2000 he moved back to Mason City to be closer to his family.
He was a member of Horseshoe Bend United Methodist Church and was a former member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly. He was an EMT and was a member of the Kiwanis of Horseshoe Bend.
Survivors include his two children -- Kay Hedegard and her husband, Roger, of Plymouth and James Montgomery and his wife, Avis, of Lake Mills Iowa; 11 grandchildren -- Julie Ciavarelli, Lorre Myhre and her husband, Joe, Bud Ciavarelli and his wife, Alice, Vickie Martin and her husband, Mark, Tracy Hedegard, Nicole Hedegard, Pete Montgomery, Chris Montgom-ery and his wife, Vonda, Jay Montgomery and his wife Angie, Heidi Brown and her husband, Joe, and Jon Montgomery; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Maurine Carr and her husband, Ed, of Akron, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two brothers -- Max and Wayne Montgomery.
A memorial service was March 20 at Plymouth United Methodist Church in Plymouth, Iowa, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. Inure-ment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth.
