The first ever American Cancer Society Jail and Bail was held May 6 at Alton and the first group of inmates to serve time were the elected officials of Oregon County. They are, from the left: Oregon County Clerk Gary Hensley; Circuit Clerk and Recorder of Deeds Dorothy Barton; Oregon County Assessor Charlie Alford; Oregon County Treasurer Laurel Johnson; Oregon County Collector Jerry Richardson; Oregon County Sheriff Tim Ward; and Oregon County commissioners Leo Warren, Buddy Wright and John Wrenfrow. The jailbirds were served summonses on a variety of charges. Richardson served time for "impersonating the president." Ward was caught "speeding" and Oregon County Clerk Gary Hensley "sold a car on Sunday."
