Fulton employees get $1,000 raises

Wednesday, November 21, 2001

The Fulton County Quorum Court passed the 2002 budget Nov. 13.The largest increase in the new budget was requested by the Fulton County Sheriff's Office for approximately $40,000 to go toward salaries and a new law enforcement vehicle. The budget committee met twice to discuss salary increases and it continued to be the topic for discussion at this meeting.Justice of the Peace Dr. Carl Arnold said, "There has been a change in American income since Sept. 11." With uncertainties in the economy he suggested tabling the action on employee raises until January, but the motion was voted down by a 5-4 vote.

It was decided to give raises of $1,000 across the board for employees on their anniversary date. And those that have completed 25 years of service would receive $1,400, provided the money is available at that time, said Judge Curren EverettScott Russell from the 16th Judicial Drug Task Force appealed to the court for $4,400 to be included in the budget. He said the DTF worked 65 cases in Fulton County, 16 of which were methamphetamine labs they closed down. Justice of the Peace Mel Coleman said, "I'm for you; the money to shut these folks down is well spent." The motion was passed to appropriate the money to the DTF.
