SPRING RIVER -- On May 26 Mammoth Spring State Park held its annual Spring River Clean Up with a record number of 60 participants.
State park staff, along with Arkansas Game and Fish Commission staff, 22 military recruits from Mountain Home, Ark., and local volunteers, retrieved 32 large bags of trash from the bottom and banks of the Spring River. Some of the odd items they collected were miscellaneous car parts, railroad debris and a car door.
The park staff said Mammoth Spring Canoe Rental and Campground and Many Islands Resort and Canoe Rental provided the canoes and shuttle transportation for the cleanup. The next river cleanup is scheduled for Sept. 11 in conjunction with the Great Arkansas Cleanup.
Anyone interested in joining the park staff for the September cleanup or anyone interested in other park activity information can call the park at 870-625-7364.
