Former Thayer woman to face abuse charges
THAYER -- A former Thayer woman, Deanna Seymour, was arrested June 7 by officers with the Oregon County Sheriff's Department on charges of felony child abuse.
Seymour, 42, now lives in Warrenton, Mo.
Records from the Oregon County Court house show that on Jan. 21 Seymour allegedly inflicted cruel and inhuman punishment on a child, her daughter, less than 17 years of age, by striking her several times in the face with her hand.
Thayer Assistant Police Chief Lt. George Manes said he was called to the Thayer Elementary School to talk to the girl about the assault. Manes said the girl had several marks on her face, her eyes were red and swollen and there was dried blood on her upper lip from a cut.
The officer stated that the girl's cheeks and left ear, were red and she had scratches on her chin.
The girl said her mother had hit her the night before with a closed fist.
Seymour posted a $4,000 bond and is scheduled to be in Oregon County Associate Circuit Court June 23 at the Oregon County Courthouse.
