James Leonard Williams, 78, died Oct. 29, 2001 in Melbourne, Ark. He was born Jan. 12, 1923 in Sage, Ark., the son of the late Corbitt and Florence Lawson Williams. He served in the United States Army during World War II, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Early in his working years he was a lineman for Arkansas Power and Light. For the past 28 years he has served as a Baptist minister. He was married to Estel Wammack on Jan. 26, 1946, and to this union one daughter was born. He was a member of Midway Baptist Church, Melbourne Ministerial Alliance, and Lions Club of Senath, Mo.Survivors include his wife, Estel of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Geneva and Paul Hickson of Piggott, Ark.; two sisters, Anna May Weaver of LaCrosse and Mildred Cooper of Melbourne; three brothers, Glen Williams and Howard Williams of Melbourne, and Roy Williams of Wichita, Kan.; three grandchildren, Amanda and Randy Cooper of Violet Hill, Scott and Brandy Hickson of Piggott and Desiree and Danny Tyrrell of Lee's Summit, Mo.; three great-grandchildren, Kayla and Justin Cooper of Violet Hill and Jeane Tyrrell of Lee's Summit; and a host of other relatives and many good friends.He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Otto Williams, and one daughter Alice Marie Williams.Service were held Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. at the Midway Baptist Church with Bruce Qualls and Joe Jackson officiating. Burial was at Caney Springs Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home.Pallbearers were: Jerry Webb, Randy Bray, Eugene Jennings, Gary Campbell, Andy Knokers and Billy Konkers. Honorary pallbearers were: David Jennings, Johnny Hodge, Lance Hames, Donnie Slation, Author Barber, S.D. Hacker, Jim Black, Doyne Robertson, Frank Oliver and Cub Rush.
