Nancy Wheeler, 85, daughter of the late Will A. Smith and Grace Mooney Smith was born Nov. 24, 1915 in Couch, Mo., and died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001 in Springfield, Mo. She was married Oct. 15, 1938 in Billmore, Mo. to Hugh Wheeler.She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devoted Christian of the First Baptist Church of Thayer. Throughout her life she spent hours helping others in the church and in the community. She loved kids and enjoyed her chosen vocation, teaching. She taught fifth grade in the Thayer School system for over 20 years. She was a graduate of Couch High School and Arkansas State University.Survivors include two sons, Bill Wheeler and wife, Tanna of Branson, Mo., and Joe Wheeler of Arcadia, Mo.; four sisters, Joann Brewer of St. Charles, Mo., Polly Koetting and husband Art of Okawville, Ill., Ethel Goodrich and husband, Dalton of Bradenton, Fla., and Berry Crase and husband, Calvin of Ash Grove, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Lorene Wheeler of Branson West, Mo.; one brother-in-law, Golden Wheeler and wife, Marge of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren, Jennifer Wheeler of Branson, Jerrod Wheeler and wife, Amie of Monroe, La., Breah Wheeler-Ward and husband, Ted of Arcadia, Mo., and DeShae Wheeler of Arcadia; many nieces and nephews and friends.She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Carlee and John Bill Smith; one sister, Pauline Bolton; and one grandson, Gregory Ralph Wheeler.Services were Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, with Billy Banks officiating. Burial was in the Howell Memorial Park at West Plains, Mo., with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc, of Thayer, Mo.Pallbearers were Harold Wheeler, Rick Thomas, Don Brewer, Jim Wheeler, Scott Sullivan, and Kenny King.
