Ed Sanford, 71, of Horseshoe Bend, Ark., died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001 at the White River Medical Center in Batesville, Ark. He was born July 7, 1930 in Morris, Ill., the son of William and Lois (Howe) Sanford. He was a graduate of Lake Forest Academy and Amherst College in Massachusetts. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1952. He served his country for twenty-three years. He was in many conflicts including Vietnam and the Bay of Pigs, as a carrier pilot for the navy. He retired from the Navy and pursued several vocations including an insurance agent, real estate salesman, and managed his family farms for many years. He married Jeanne Asness on Oct. 13, 1990. They moved to Horseshoe Bend in January of 1992 where he was active in the Kiwanis, VFW of which he was recently named commander of the local post, and worked for the Carriage Trade Realty as a part time associate. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.Survivors include his wife, Jeanne of the home; two step-sons, Lawrence and wife, Kathy of North Aurora, Ill., and Ronald of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Mary Ann Sanford of Morris, Ill.; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a close family friend, Helen Meisner and daughter, Audra.Services were Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Morris, Ill, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery in Morris.
