PERSISTENT FIRE: Firefighters were called back to the scene a second time when flames kicked back up.
The Agnos/Glencoe/Heart Volunteer Fire Department was called out twice to the same house fire in Agnos on Dec. 10 and then again on Dec. 12.

When firefighters got to the scene, the fire was through the roof of the home of William and Debbie Hobbs located behind Hobbs Auto Sales on Highway 62/412. The home was a total loss.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and is being investigated by Fire Chief Mark Miller.

Miller said they used about 16,000 gallons of water and had seven firemen at the scene for about six hours. He said his men didn't get home until around 4 a.m.

During the rain on Dec. 12 the fire kicked back up and firemen had to put the blaze out again, according to an employee, David Morell of Hobbs Auto Sales, who reported the second fire.

Hobbs and his wife were not at home at the time of the fire but a cat and dog were in the house. They managed to escape.Hobbs said, "When we got home, it was a shock. We had no idea."

Hobbs and his wife are currently staying at an area hotel. He said, "At this point we are not thinking too clear."He said the local people have helped out with donations of food and clothing and have been very good to them during this disaster.

He said, "Makes you take a new look at life."
