Lena Opal Shell, 91, of Salem, Ark., daughter of the Grover Cleveland and Eydth Halbrook Fudge was born on Oct. 19, 1912, at Zion, Ark. She died June 28, 2004, at Salem.
She married Thomas Jefferson Shell on Dec. 22, 1928, at Sage, Ark., and to this union three daughters were born. She spent her working years as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and a cook for the Salem School System and Fulton County Hospital. She was a member of the Salem First Baptist Church, Order of Eastern Star, Salem Lodge 521, and Salem Garden Club.
Survivors include three daughters -- Charlene Collins of Salem, Ark.; Jo Ella Maguffee of Arcadia, Mo.; and Joy L. Wood of Mountain Grove, Mo.; five grandchildren -- Andrew Jeffery Collins, Tammy Scullin, Terri Walker, Sean Wood, and Cydney Cunningham; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; son-in-law, Jim Maguffee, grandson, Thomas Dean Maguffee; two brothers -- Clois and Cecil Fudge; and two sisters -- Nadine Gaston and Tina Hall.
The funeral was July 1 at Salem First Baptist Church in Salem, with John Hodges and Andrew Collins officiating. Interment was in the Salem Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem.
Pallbearers were Andrew Collins, Sean Wood, Jeremy Cunningham, David Walker, John Scullin and Max Wood.
Memorials are preferred to Salem First Baptist Church building fund.
