"I have been blessed with good people to work with and help me and good people on my route. I will miss them," he said during a get-together at the post office July 1.
Thayer Postmaster Paula Kirby presented Forschler with a 30-year Service Award pin and a Service Award certificate, telling him and the Thayer Post Office employees, "I will miss Tom."
Fellow employees surprised the retiree with the special gift of a Cardinals baseball game in August. He and two guests of his choice will travel to St. Louis to watch the Cardinals and the Pirates.
"In some ways, this, (retirement) has come very quickly, and in some ways very slow. It feels pretty good right now," Forschler said.
Forschler lives in Thayer. He graduated from Thayer High School in 1965. He has four children, T.J. lives in Ozark, Mo.; Lucas lives in Seattle, Wash.; Tara lives in Ozark, Mo., and his youngest daughter, Autumn, lives in Thayer.
Forschler did not give ant specifics regarding his retirement plans. He said he was going to be doing some things he had not had time for in the past. He said he is sure he will enjoy his retirement.
