MRID presents layout for golf course irrigation system golf course irrigation system

Wednesday, July 3, 2002

Commissioner Terry Smith gave an update and presented two layouts on the irrigation system design proposal for the golf course at the MRID meeting June 25.

The current system is at least 40 years old, inadequate and antiquated, he said.

With a new system energy costs would be cut about 90 percent and total savings would be about $45,000 annually.

The new system would be programmable and operate on demand.

The current system takes three days to completely water the golf course when pumps are operable.

Once the new system has been implemented watering would be completed in 12 hours. The cost of a new system has not been determined.

A petition was received from Pioneer Lake residents to eliminate all gas engines on the lake. The commissioners voted to eliminate all gas engines, allowing only trolling motors on the lake.

The pro shop reported 2,713 rounds of golf played for the month of May -- 206 more rounds than in April. The MRID golf tournament was successful and plans for next year are being made.

The financial report was read and included the following information: total income for May $115,655.64; expenses were $57,116.30; net gain $58,539.34.

Year-to-date figures: income $252,576.13; expenses $215,799.94; net gain $36,776.19.

Total cash on hand at the end of May was $135,220.18.
