MAMMOTH SPRING -- Mammoth Spring School Board members have been kept busy during the April and May school board meetings.

At the most recent school board meeting, members voted to rescind the contract offered to Jeremy Cude as a coach and math teacher. A math teaching contract for grades 7-12 was extended to Kristin Estes for 185 days.

A teaching contract for home economics was extended to Angela Ginnings for 205 days and school board members voted to extend an addendum to Phillip Thomas as technology coordinator with salary as the salary schedule regulates.

Summer contracts were extended to Allen Edson and Michael Delaney on a needs basis with an hourly pay rate at $7 an hour.

Superintendent Houston Case reported that the district insurance company has sent a survey to inquire if schools would be interested in purchasing trip insurance for state bus trips for an additional cost of $300 to $600 per bus trip. The consensus of the board was to fill out the survey as a no reply.

The superintendent also reported that he had received a notice of $9,450 additional cuts in state funding for the 2001-02 school year.

School board members gave consideration to the negotiated elementary renovation bids. The two bids received were from HDI Contractors and Proverce Construction Co. Inc. Case recommended the district stay within the grant monies funded and to accept the negotiated bid from HDI as follows: accept base bid #2 with the deletion of the $44,000 heating and cooling, making a total of $140,000 negotiated bid. A motion was made by Harry Young and seconded by Devon Smoot to accept the negotiated bid as recommended and the motion was passed by unanimous vote.

School board member Devon Smoot expressed that he would like the two big trees located between the agri and gym buildings to be trimmed. It was the decision of the board, for the superintendent to seek prices on trimming the trees.

The superintendent asked that all summer employees go to a four-day work week for the summer, explaining that the five-day work week hours could be worked into four days instead of five. It was a unanimous decision to permit the request for the summer.
