Voter registration deadline told

Wednesday, July 3, 2002

OREGON COUNTY -- The deadline for Oregon County residents to register to vote for the Aug. 6 primary is July 10 at 5 p.m., Oregon County Clerk Gary Hensley said.

"Oregon County residents can register to vote at my office on the first floor of the courthouse at Alton, Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Hensley said that his office will be open on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 8 a.m. to noon to accommodate Oregon County residents who need to register to vote but cannot make it to his office during normal, regular business hours.

The county clerk said Missourians who are 17-1/2 years old and will be 18 by election day are eligible to register to vote. He said he will mail out voter registration cards once the new registrants have reached the age of 18.

Hensley said he reminds Oregon County residents who have moved from a former voting precinct to have a change of address that they also need to re-register by July 10 in order to be allowed to vote in the August primary

Oregon County voters who wish to vote absentee will need to do so by July 31.
