A two-vehicle, head-on collision May 29 on Highway 9 south of Mammoth Spring resulted in the death of a woman's unborn child and her mother.
A 1982 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling north driven by James M. Cox, 22, along with his passenger, Angela Mack-Cox, 20, pulled into the southbound lane while negotiating a curve and struck a 1991 Dodge pickup truck driven by Susan K. Manes, 46, along with her passenger, Lacey Lingenfelter, 19.
All four were transported by Air-Evac to St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo.
Manes died the following day from injuries sustained in the accident. Lingenfelter, who was six months pregnant, lost the baby due to injuries sustained in the accident, according to a report filed by Cpl. Kenneth W. Foley of the Arkansas State Police.
Melissa Haase, a spokesman from St. John's Hospital, said Lingenfelter is listed in serious but stable condition, James Cox is listed in fair condition, and Angela Cox is listed in good condition as of June 3.
Fulton County Chief Deputy Carrol Traw said no charges have been filed at this time.
The two vehicles were towed from the scene by Lynn's Towing Service.
