David Lawrence Helmers of Hardy, Ark., formerly of Taylorville, Ill., was born Nov. 14, 1941, in Taylorville, Ill., the son of Alfred and Hazel (Ellerbusch) Helmers, and died Aug. 22, 2007, at Taylorville Memorial Hospital in Taylorville, Ill. He was 65.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion and the VFW.
He served in the U.S. Army Infantry during the Vietnam Conflict.
He is survived by a sister, Barbara and husband Charles Coffey of Taylorville; nieces, Cheryl and husband Steve McMahon, Carole and husband, Mark Harrison, Lisa and husband, Andy Daykin and Lori Burdzilauskas all of Taylorville; nephews, Michael and wife, Angie Coffey of Peculiar, Mo., and Mark David Coffey of Taylorville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral servies were held Aug. 26 at Sutton Memorial Home in Taylorville, Ill., with burial following at the Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Taylorville.
