School board election dates set

Area school board elections will soon be taking place.

In the Salem School District, there is one open position with a contested race between Karen Coffman and Keith Grey.

The winner will replace Dr. Guy Smith.

There are two open positions but no contested races in the Viola School District.

Lisa Neal and Andy McCandlis will continue to serve in those positions.

The Fulton County election is Sept. 18 at the courthouse on the square in Salem. Early voting will begin Sept. 11; polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

There is also one contested race among the Izard County schools.

In the Calico Rock School District, incumbent Steven Lively will face challengers Beth Duboise and Shad McClain.

On the Izard County Consolidated School Board, both Deana Taylor and Mike McCandlis are running unopposed for two vacant spots.

There is one open, uncontested position on the Melbourne School Board. Kurt Miller will continue serving in that position.

The Izard County School Board election will be Sept. 18 at the Izard County Courthouse. Early voting will begin Sept. 4, and votes can be placed from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
