Gilbert Matthew Williams, 85, of Alton, Mo., was born Jan. 20, 1917, and passed away Sept. 15, 2002, at the Cross-roads Regional Medical Center in Wentzville, Mo. He was a World War II veteran, and served in the European Theatre. While in the Army, he received the Purple Heart, along with numerous other medals.Survivors are one daughter, Louise Baker and husband Clifford of Troy, Mo.; two sons, Gary Williams and wife, Debbie of Wentzville, Mo., and Larry Williams and wife, Rosemary of Troy, Mo.; one sister, Eula Stevens of Advance, Mo.; two brothers, Eugene Williams of Risco, Mo., and Winford Williams of Lyons, Kan.; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Julie Risenhover-Williams, his wife, Agnes Williams and one daughter, Letta May Williams.Services were Sept. 18, 2002, at the Clary Chapel in Alton, with Bro. John Lewis Casey officiating. Burial was in the Bardley Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Clary Funeral Home of Alton.
