James Byrd "J. B." Williamson, 94, son of the late James Vester Williamson, and Emma Redden Williamson was born April 3, 1908, in Lexington, Miss., and died Sept. 12, 2002, in West Plains, Mo. He was married Nov. 1, 1931, in Jackson, Miss. to Maggie Blake. He was a Navy veteran, serving aboard the USS Menafee Battle Ship during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Charles Burkett Post #344 in Thayer, and was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Branchville Grand Lodge F & AM. He was a retired farmer; and an employee of the United States Department of Agriculture.He was a charter member of the Crigler Missionary Baptist Church in Crigler, Ark.Survivors are his wife, Maggie of Thayer, Mo. three children, James Blake William-son of Clearwater, Fla., Emma Louise Lack and husband, Dr. Gary Lack of Thayer, and Louis Allen Williamson and wife, Linda of Memphis, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Sidney Marion Williamson; one step-son, Tommy Edwards; and several brothers and sisters.Graveside services and burial was Sept. 16, 2002, at the Thayer Cemetery with Rev. Tony Meeker officiating. Arrangements were by Carter Funeral Home Inc., of Thayer. Military rites were by the American Legion Charles Burkett Post #344 of Thayer.Pallbearers were Lee Edward Lack, Lewis Adams Williamson, Byron Smith, David Fred Lack, Michael VanLandingham, and Charles Blaylock.Honorary pallbearers were James Williamson, David Edwards and Tommy Edwards.
