Mildred Lorene Madden, 78, daughter of the late James Phipps and Goldie Mae Brazeal Phipps, was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Kansas City, Mo. and passed away on Sept. 13, 2002, in West Plains, Mo. She was married on March 25, 1939, in Thayer, Mo. to Henry Cleo Madden, who preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 1987.She was a nurse's aide, being one of the first workers hired by McWorkman Nursing Home in Thayer. She was a homemaker and also worked as a nurses aide for West Vue Inc, in West Plains, Mo. She was of the Freewill Baptist faith.Survivors include eight children, Mary Mitchell and husband, Jim of Koshkonong, Mo., Billy Joe Madden and wife, Ann of Thayer, Mo., Raymond Madden of Thayer, Ruth Huddle and husband, Allen of Jonesboro, Ark., Henry Madden and wife, Mary of Couch, Mo., Sharon Bowers and husband, Jim of Thayer, Carra Webb of Jonesboro, and Pam Bowers and husband, Rob of West Plains, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her step-mother, Alta Phipps of Thayer; three sisters, Agnus Cantrell and Kathy Russell both of Thayer, and Joyce Lee Vaughn of Kansas City, Mo.; her brother-in-law, Clarence Burton Madden of Baltimore, Md.; and two sisters-in-law, Cara Smith of Springdale, Ark., and Irene Madden of Thayer.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, one daughter, Joyce Lucille Madden; one infant son; one grandson, Kevin Mitchell; and one brother, James B. Phipps.Graveside services were held Sept. 15, 2002, at the Walker Cemetery at Thayer, Mo., with Rev. Craig Hensley officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of the Carter Funeral Home Inc. of Thayer.Pallbearers were Billy Joe Madden, Henry Madden, Rob Bowers, Raymond Madden, Jim Bowers, and Allen Huddle.
