Grass resigns from SHS

Salem Greyhound Head Football Coach Bob Grass resigned June 21 at the Salem School Board meeting.

In a letter addressed to the board Grass said he is resigning to pursue a military career.

Grass, a Marine major, has been on active duty since 2002. He missed the 2003 football season while performing his military duties.

Salem High School Principal Wayne Guiltner will serve as the Greyhounds head football coach in 2004. Guiltner filled in for Grass in 2003 while he was serving.

In other board news, high school English and art teacher Melissa Story resigned. Salem District Superintendent Bob Foster recommended that the board hire Amanda Himschoot to fill Story's vacant position.

The board voted unanimously to hire Himschoot.Foster also recommended that the board hire Jeff Parks as a technology coordinator for the Salem School District.

Incoming Superintendent Ken Rich said a technology coordinator maintains the school computers, trouble shoots problems in the network and provides education for staff development.

The board unanimously approved Parks' hire. Parks will work on the Salem campus three days a week and the Viola campus two days a week.
