The body of a man recovered April 23 from the sleeper of a 1998 Peterbilt truck has been positively identified as Danny Dupler, 42, of Viola, said Fulton County Sheriff Lloyd Martz. Dupler was a mechanic.
Deputy Brad Schaufler was on routine patrol when he observed smoke coming from a shop building used as a garage located six miles north of Viola on Highway 223. The garage is owned by Bryan Guffee.
The Viola Volunteer Fire Department discovered the burned body in the sleeper of the truck that was parked in the shop building. Dupler's body was removed from the vehicle and transported to the State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock.
The State Medical Examiner's Office performed an autopsy the following day. Authorities were able to identify the body from dental records, Martz said.
The autopsy determined the cause of death as a result of smoke and soot inhalation. The autopsy report listed the manner of death pending until the sheriff's office and the Arkansas State Police can complete the investigation. But Martz said authorities do not suspect foul play.
State police agents and investigators from the insurance company conducted the scene investigation and told Martz due to the extreme fire damage the cause of the fire has not been determined.
The building and vehicle were both total losses.
