Calico Rock Mayor Ronnie Guthrie told the Calico Rock City Council June 14 that easement work for the Wideman Water Project is tentatively scheduled to begin in July.
The Wideman Water Project is a $1.8 million effort to incorporate parts of the Wideman area into the Calico Rock water system.
The easement work will be done by J and K Research from Little Rock. The easement work has been on hold while the city searched for a company to do the work.
Calico Rock Recorder/Treasurer Gary Teague said Calico Rock received a grant from the USDA for the Wideman Water Project. He said in order to complete the project 135 residents in the Wideman area have to sign up for the water service and Calico Rock would have to borrow $300,000 to meet its financial obligations.
Teague said 95 residents in the Wideman area have signed up for the water service.
Rod Smith of IESI asked the council for a 20-cent increase per resident to cover fuel costs. Alderman Steve Marsee made the motion to give IESI the increase under the condition that the increase be re-evaluated in September. -- George Jared
