Melvin Louis Flack, 84, of Cherokee Village, died June 17, 2004, in Cherokee Village, Ark. Born July 2, 1919, in Bethalto, Ill., he was the son of John Lewis Flack and Bertha Florence England Flack. He worked as a service manager before retiring from Ruan Transport in Alton. He retired and moved to Salem, then to Cherokee Village in 1991.

He went to work for Wal-Mart in Ash Flat as one of the first greeters at the store and worked there until illness prevented him from working. He was also a member of the Toastmaster Club in Alton, Ill., and was a member of Salem First Assembly of God.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Jim and Karan Flack of Cherokee Village; two brothers -- Rueben Paul Flack of Peoria, Ill, and David Nemrod Flack of Litchfield, Ill.; four sisters -- Lucy Mae Hale of Houston, Naomi Ruth Wieneke of Jerseyville, Ill., Edith Marie Law of Litchfield and Stella Lowanda Stephens of Ontario, Calif.; two grandchildren -- Stacy Shannon of Lugoff, S.C. and Tech. Sgt. Stephan Flack of Parker, Colo.; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Harriet E. Flack; three brothers -- James Harold Flack, William Fredric Flack, John Louis Flack Jr.; and a sister, Alberta Florence Flack.

The funeral was June 22 at Tri-County's Cherokee Chapel in Highland with burial in the Oaklwn Cemetery. The Rev. William Hughart officiated. Arrangements were by Tri-County's Funeral Services Inc.

Pallbearers were Jim Flack, Stephen Flack, David Flack, Paul Wieneke, Todd Shannon and Gordon Jackson.

The family requests that memorials be made to the building fund of Salem First Assembly of God Church.
