Von C. Mullen, 93, of Little Rock, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died June 12, 2004, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock. Born Feb. 12, 1911, in Strawberry, he was the son of William Riley and Emma Campbell Mullen. He was united in marriage June 14, 1938, to Cleotta Inez Booth in Walnut Ridge. He was a graduate of Arkansas State College, where he lettered in 1933 in basketball. He was a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He apprenticed with his brother, Judge Roy Mullen, in the abstract and title business in Walnut Ridge and later moved to Pocahontas. He then was owner of Basin Title Company in Farmington, N.M. He also worked for Shell Oil Company in the 1970s before retiring to Little Rock.
Survivors include his wife, Cleotta Booth Mullen of Hardy; two daughters -- Vonette and Bill Templeton of Jonesboro and Betty Gale (Mrs. Mack) Davis of Little Rock; three grandchildren -- Dr. Ellen and Rob Lawrence of Pacific Grove, Calif., Dr. Vonda Gale and Keith Houchin of Weiner, and Corporal Bill V. Templeton, U.S. Maine Corps, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers -- Judge Roy Mullen, Todd Mullen and Dennis Mullen; and two sisters -- Irene Doyle and Faye Satcher.
The funeral was June 16 at Higginbotham Chapel in Walnut Ridge with Daniel Mullen officiating. Burial followed at Walker Cemetery in Hardy.
Pallbearers were Daniel Mullen, David Mullen, Bobby Mullen and Keith Houchin.
