Salem Board increases salaries

Thursday, December 5, 2002

The Salem School Board approved salary increases for the 2002-03 school year for both certified and classified personnel at the meeting Nov. 25.

The increases were approved after Superintendent Bob Foster recommended to the board to add $1,000 to the base of the certified salary schedule with $500 to be paid in December and the remainder in May. Foster also recommended a 3 percent raise be given to classified personnel and paid in December.

The board accepted a bid submitted by Traco Roofing in the amount of $57,500 for re-roofing a portion of the high school.

Elementary Principal David Turnbough reported that four Salem Elementary teachers recently earned National Board Certification status. Turnbough commended Lynn Maguffee, Becky Turnbough, Merlina McCullough and Mylet Trotter for their accomplishment.

High School Principal Ken Rich reported on college placement scores for 2001 seniors and announced that percentages of Salem students attending public institution were above state averages in English, math and reading for proficiency levels.
