Sophomore Mike Kish came off the bench for 10 points, four boards, four steals and two assists as the Highland Rebels rolled over Jonesboro Westside 64-43 Nov. 26.
"The defense stepped up and played well," said Head Coach Chad Arnhart. Seniors Yates Patterson and Ronnie Coop had five steals apiece as Highland swarmed the Warriors from tipoff to buzzer.
The Rebels led by 8 at the end of the first quarter, but saw the lead diminish to 22-16 at the half. "In the second half we started executing on offense and knocked down our shots. We shot 50 percent of our field goals for the first time this year," said Arnhart.
Senior Kyle Baty scored 10 points and had five rebounds. Patterson had 9 points to go with his five steals.
The Rebels are 2-2 on the season, 1-0 in conference. They were set to face Cave City Tuesday.
The Highland Lady Rebels defeated Westside 50-40 Nov. 25 behind the 25 points and 13 rebounds of junior Allyson Sample.
Highland's starting point guard, Andrea Sublett, suffered a bad ankle sprain in an earlier contest at Heber Springs and was unable to play, but senior Amber Snyder came in strong off the bench to lead the Highland attack.
The win at home improved Highland's record to 2-1, 1-0 in conference.
The junior Lady Rebels jumped out to a 12-2 first quarter lead against the junior Lady Warriors and held on to take a 37-28 win Nov. 25.
