Lawrence Stiven Grable, son of the late Leonard and Elizabeth Stiven Grable was born Oct. 8, 1941, in Little Rock, Ark. He died Aug. 4, 2003, in Calico Rock, Ark., at the age of 61 years.
Lawrence received a master's degree in American History from Washington University and a honorary PHd in divinity. He was an accomplished celloist, performing with the Webster University Orchestra. He was a past president of the St. Louis Orchid Society. He was a retired philosophy professor at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley, Mo.
He was united in marriage to Lavon Tanis in Las Vegas in 1989. During 1989, they moved to Horseshoe Bend, Ark. Lawrence was an avid outdoorsman who loved to kayak. It was his love of the outdoors and kayaking that brought him to Calico Rock. In April 2003, Lawrence and Lavon opened the White River Inn.
Survivors include his wife, Lavon Tanis Grable of the home; a son, Karl Arthur Grable of St. Louis, Mo.; two daughters -- Katherine Alice Stephens of Fairplay, Colo., and Jennifer Louise Grable of St. Louis; two stepchildren -- Kevin Tanis of Ogden, Utah, and Tammy Tanis of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Lisa Baltzer of Vienna, Va.; and three grandchildren -- Lora Kay Stephens, Sheldon Tanis and Sierra Tanis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Elizabeth Grable.
The funeral was Aug. 9 at Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Calico Rock, Ark. with Paul DuBose officiating. Arrange-ments were by Eddie's Family Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers were David Culp, Kevin Tanis, Frank Stephens and Dan Watkins.
