William Raleigh (Bill) Williams, of Viola, son of the late Sam and Evelyn Darr Williams, was born Feb. 5, 1927 in Alton, Mo. He died Feb. 1, 2005 at Baxter Regional Medical Center in Mountain Home, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 27 days. He married June Whitten on June 3, 1945 at Alton, Mo. He was a farmer and for many years, owned and operated general stores in Alton and Viola. He served on the Viola City Council and was a member of the Lions Club. He was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his son Garry (Janice) Williams of Viola; his daughters, Rebecca (Robert) Lash of Viola and Carol (Larry Dale) Sanders of Berryville; sister, Ruth Cockman of West Plains; grandchildren: Tena Hart and Greg Williams, Sarah Williams, Rachel Luther and Elizabeth Lash, Whitney and Cody Sanders; great-grandchildren: Megan Carl, Mike Hart and Hunter Williams; special friend and caregiver, Wanda Freeman, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, three infant children, twins, Billy Hugh and Betty Lou, and Patricia Ann Williams; grandson Michael Wayne Williams; brother Herb Williams and his parents.
Services were Feb. 3, 2005 at Viola Baptist Church with burial in Viola Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home in Salem, Ark.
Pallbearers were David Williams, Justin Luther, Greg Williams, Matt Hart, Cody Sanders, Rick Saunders, Norman Anderson and Brant Casey.
