Bobcats untouched in SCA play

With Brett Ward leading the way by tossing in a game-high 23 points, the Thayer Bobcats remained unscathed in South Central Association play by besting the Ava Bears 61-48 at home Feb. 4.

Down 21-23 at the half, the Cats (17-2, 3-0) came roaring back by outpacing Ava 21-5 in the third period.

Josh Wemlinger added 16 points for Thayer, while Layne Hawkins followed with eight, Aaron Henry seven, Andrew Eckman five, and M.J. Clark two.

The Bobcats started their week off on a positive note with a 55-35 win over Willow Springs Feb. 1.

Leading 33-17 at the half, Thayer cruised to a 20-point victory by keeping the Bears at bay in the second half.

Wemlinger led the Cats with 16, while Henry added 10. Clark and Ward followed with nine points each, while Eckman tallied seven, and John Tollenaar four.

The Lady Bobcats came up short of Willow Springs in South Central Association play, falling to the Lady Bears 59-35 at home Jan. 31.

Thayer fell behind 18-5 after the first period and couldn't make up enough ground to overtake Willow Springs.

LaShanda Horton and Heather Coffel paced the Lady Bobcats with 10 points apiece, while Krysta Adams added nine. Tiffany Poulette, Tasha Wrenfrow and Autumn Forschler posted two points each.

The Lady Cats (11-9, 2-3) ended conference play for the week with a 59-45 loss to the Ava Lady Bears Feb. 4.

Horton tossed in 23 points for Thayer, while Coffel and Wrenfrow added eight apiece. Brittany Allen logged four, and Valerie Dixon two for the Lady Bobcats.

Thayer traveled to the Cougars' Den in Brockwell, Ark., Feb. 5 and split a pair of games with Izard County Consolidated.

Using a game-high 21 points from Wemlinger, the Bobcats topped ICC 65-52.

Henry followed with 15 points, while Eckman and Ward tossed in 10 points apiece.

The host Lady Cougars topped Thayer 66-55 to begin the evening.

Horton paced Thayer with 19, while Allen and Wrenfrow added 11 apiece.
