Lewis Jefferson Armstrong, 70, of Hardy, Ark., died Oct. 1, 2003, at the White River Medical Center in Batesville.
He was born at Hardy, Ark., June 26, 1933, the son of the late Alvin and Sarah Alzadia Break Armstrong.
He was united in marriage to the former Norma Jean Watkins Oct. 8, 1955. He was a logger having owned and operated his own sawmill for 30 years and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include five sons -- Lewis G. Armstrong of Hardy, Arthur Armstrong of Licking, Mo., William Jefferson, Donald Ray and Christopher Armstrong all of Batesville; one daughter, Mary J. Smith of Batesville; two brothers -- Charlie Armstrong of Aurora, Ill., and William Armstrong of Gideon, Mo.; three sisters, Goldie Lohr of West Plains, Mo., Elizabeth Canady of Aurora, Ill., and Lucy Swims of Wardell, Mo.; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James Armstrong; one sister, Mary Moore; and one grandson, Opie Armstrong.
Services were Oct. 4 at Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Hardy with Floyd Rikard officiating. Burial was at Baker Cemetery hear Williford on Baker Cemetery Road, with arrangements under the direction of Higginbothan Funeral Service Inc. of Hardy.
Pallbearers were Billy Walker, Dale Greene, Ricky Break, John Swims, Jeffrey Armstrong, William Hodges and Tom Swims.
Honorary pallbearers were Billy Swims, Danny Armstrong and Dennis Armstrong.
