Mickey Southard

Born 5-20-1931 -- Died 9-12-2003

Mickey Borden Southard, of Salem, son of the late Marvin Dallas and Opal Mae Bell Southard, was born May 20, 1931, in Wheeling, Ark., and died Sept. 12, 2003, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem at the age of 72 years.

He served his country in the United States Air Force during the 1950s. He was employed for many years by Baldwin and Shell Construction Company in Little Rock as a commercial builder. He also constructed many homes in the area and throughout the state. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the NRA, and the Liberty Hill Church of Christ.

Survivors include his sons -- Michael Southard and wife, Patricia, of Benton and Daryl Southard of Phoenix, Ariz.; his daughters -- Kathy Gillis and husband, Brent, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Tina Nix of Marked Tree; a brother, Larry Southard of Bay; a sister, Shirley Stokes of Brookland; seven grandchildren -- Michael, Mark, Daniel, Danelle, Jack, Michelle and Joseph; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

The funeral service was Sept. 15 at Cox-Blevins Chapel beginning at 2 p.m. with David Cooper officiating. Burial was at Morriston Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Cox-Blevins Funeral Home of Salem.
